OH STEERING COMMITTEE
MINUTES FOR SEPT. 25,2007

Members Present: Josh Alper, Bill Barrett, Doug Hotchkiss, Emily Muldoon Kathan Frank Kelliher, Tom Kelleher, John “Moose” Meserve, Eric Pederson, Doug Shaffer, Stroker.

1)   Treasurer’s Report (Moose)
Finances look good. Receipts are better than expected, especially for dues, cabin fees, merch, and contributions to the Lakes Croo Picture Project (headed by Jed Davis). All in all, we’re headed into 2008 and some major cabin work with enough in the war chest to see us through.

2)   Cabin (Stroker)
2007 work: chimney repair, new woodshed, new woodstove
Old woodstove to remain in place this winter so we can burn up remaining 2 cord of 24” logs without having to cut it all to 12” so it fits the new, smaller stove. Don Murphy to buy old stove in spring 2008 for $200.
Woodshed to get a deck this fall, rest to follow in 2008.
2008 work: new roof
Octoberfest/CC Reunion: 10/13/07
Work projects to focus on the usual cabin cleaning, plus decking the new woodshed foundation, building a small bridge over the culvert at the bottom of the access trail, clearing culvert of leaves and debris, hauling firewood up to cabin and getting it under cover for the winter. Half-dozen CC already signed up for entire weekend, more will be dropping by throughout.

3)   Fall Reunion (Doug H.)
Evite has gone out, also mention on website and in Resuscitator. Resis are slow, so beat the bushes. Committee was divided on whether to invite Geoff Burke to speak about canoe building and paddling; proper forum, competing activities, likely audience? New Huts Manager Eric Pererson agreed to contact current and recent croo, emphasizing dance at the OH Cabin following festivities at HIC.

4)   Zool & Gale 75,th, Report (Bill Barrett)
Good attendance at both events. Speaking at Zool about the construction of the hut and their times working in it were Brooks Dodge, Doug Teschner, Willy Ashbrook, Ken Olson, Brice Sloat, Dave Moskowitz, George Holt, Robin Snyder, and others. Gale was equally well remembered. Tees still available; to be offered for sale at Fall Reunion. Anyone with photos of the Gale and Zool 75ths, send them to Tom.

5)   Resuscitator
At the printer, posted on the website, and soon to hit mailboxes across America and beyond. Kudos to our hard-working ed, Jim Hamilton, and all the contributors that put many hours and much effort into another great issue with features on croo geneology, Joe Dodge, and more.

6)   Latchstring Award (Doug H.)
Award went to Lakes for the second time. Entire croo of ten has been invited to the Fall Reunion, as our guests, to receive their award.

7)   Trails Report (Bill)
Our obligations to the USFS have been fulfilled for this year, mostly thanks to Bill Barret and John Thompson, who patrolled Halls Ledge, and a party of folks who walked the Hutmans Trail at the Spring Reunion. Halls Ledge still needs blazes and burshing of small saplings in middle section. Do we create a position of OH Trail Master to oversee this work going forward? Is this a way to attract more TC alum?

8)   Website (Tom)
Gormings page added to site?
At Schroeder’s suggestion, Tom has added a Gormings section to the website where OH can log into directly and tell us what they’re up to. Anyone with photos of the Gale and Zool 75ths, send them to Tom.

9)   Photo Project (Doug H.)
Tremendous response to fundraising for the Lakes photos, which should be back on track after delay due to Sally Dinsmore’s surgery this spring. Her frame gallery will likely be sold, but she assures us she’s committed to shepherding this project forward regardless. Ned Baldwin and Dick Low voted, in abstentia, to head Madison Picture project, next hut on the list. Start passing the hat you boys! Eric Pederson agreed to retrieve photos of croo that have served since displays have been completed, and to collect croo photos going forward, to allow Sally to periodically update collections at each hut. Doug Hotchkiss to ask Sally to estimate budget for this work.

10)   Other Bidness
Madison 125th reunion is in 2013. This dates from the first shelter. First hut dates back to 1911; do we plan a 100th for 2011?

11)   Date for Next Steering Committee Meeting
Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007.
